Polina Sasko


Polina Sasko was born 1993 in the Ukraine, into a family of musicians. In 2011 she graduated from the Lysenko special school for talented children in Kiev where she was student of I. Barinova and Prof. N. Tolpygo. She went on to study at the National Ukrainian Peter Tschaikowski Music Academy as a scholar of Prof. T. Roshchyna. Currently she is studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz with Prof. Dr. Milana Chernyavska. She received further musical impulses in master courses with Prof. Milana Chernyavska, Prof. Arie Vardi, Prof. Klaus Hellwig, Prof. Oxana Yablonskaya, Prof. Uta Weyand and Prof. Yuri Kot. She is also scholarship-holder of the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein and frequently participates in its intensive-weeks. 

Polina has successfully partaken in numerous competitions and received, inter alia, the 3rdprize and diploma of the National Academy of Arts in the Ukraine for the best performance of a piece by a Ukrainian composer at the “8thInternational Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz” in Kiev, Ukraine, 2010, 1stprize at the “30thSmetana International Piano Competition” in Pilsen, Czech Republic, 2012, 3rdprize at the international piano competition “Roma” in Rome, Italy, 2013, 1stprize at the “Donau-Musikpreis” in Ulm, Germany, 2014, 2ndprize at the “San Sebastian International Piano Competition” in Spain, 2017, 2ndprize at the international piano competition “Memorial Jurica Murai and Murai Grand Prix” in Varazdin, Croatia, 2017, 1stprize at the international piano competition “Giovani Musicisti” in Treviso, Italy and the 2ndprize at the “X International Piano Competition Euterpe” in Corato, Italy, 2018.

The young pianist has already given a considerable number of solo recitals and chamber music concerts. She performed in various concert halls in the Ukraine and Europe. 

Among her recent appearances is, among others, the performance at the Frederik Chopin University for Music in Bialystok, Poland and at the international “Donaufest” in Ulm, Germany. As the winner of a special prize of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, she performed the Mozart concert in A-dur KV414 in the “Stefaniensaal” accompanied by the KUG-Orchestra and Maestro Patrick Lange.

Her concert repertoire reaches from baroque to contemporary music and is characterized by a very broad range of styles. She has recorded pieces by Haydn, Beethoven and Rachmaninov for the Ukrainian radio. Next to the classical piano literature she shows particular interest in the contemporary music of Gennady Sasko, Oleg Bezborodko, Jean-Frederic Neuburger, Hao-Fu Zhang and Mykhaylo Stepanenko. In 2013, she premiered Svyatoslav Lunyov`s piano cycle “Retroludies”. Several times she performed with the National Ukrainian Philharmonics under the baton of V. Sirenko at the Lysenko concert hall. Additional appearances brought her to Germany, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Austria, Poland, Serbia and Slovenia. In June 2013, she participated in the international EMCY-Project “Young Hearts for Music Tour” in Germany and Austria where she performed together with young musicians from different European countries. In the same year, she participated in the Austrian chamber music course “colluvio” which also included an international concert tour.
