Adrian Buzac

The oboist Adrian Ionut Buzac was born in Kronstadt (Romania) in 1980 and began to play the oboe at the age of eleven. Just five years later, at the age of 16, he began to study oboe with Professor Lothar Koch at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, later continuing his studies with Professor Günther Passin. He successfully passed both stages of his degree exams with distinction. Driven by a determination to broaden his musical expertise as far as possible, he went on to attend further degree courses in instrumental and vocal teaching, Baroque oboe, musicology and finally to pursue a doctorate. He also participated in masterclasses in oboe, composition and Baroque oboe alongside his studies.

Adrian Ionut Buzac has received scholarships from the Mozarteum University, the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, the Soros Foundation, the Herbert von Karajan Center, Berlin and the “Sofie Fohn-Stipendienstiftung”. Together with the other members of his wind quintet “Penta Musica” he has been awarded scholarships from the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation “Live Music Now”, the “Gottfried von Einem Musik-Privatstiftung” foundation, the Herbert von Karajan Center, Vienna, and a special prize as best wind quintet at the “Gradus ad parnassum 2004” competition. He has also won several 1stprizes at national and international competitions and has been supported by renowned conductors such as Gustav Kuhn, Dennis Russell Davies and Gustavo Dudamel.

At a very young age he already began to gain extensive experience as an orchestral musician, and has an accomplished repertoire with orchestras and ensembles such as the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the Tyrolean Festival Erl orchestra, the Bruckner Orchestra Linz, the Simon Bolivar Orchestra Venezuela, the “Salzburger Kammerphilharmonie”, the Salzburg Chamber Soloists, the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra, the Vorarlberg Symphony Orchestra, the “Österreichisches Ensemble für neue Musik”, the “Windkraft Tirol Kapelle für neue Musik”, the “Sinfonietta Montfort”, the Vienna “Concert-Verein” and the Symphony Orchestra and the “Bläserphilharmonie” of the Mozarteum University Salzburg”. 

Throughout this widely ranging orchestral experience, but also with his “Penta Musica” wind quintet and as a soloist, Adrian Ionut Buzac has performed in numerous famous concert halls, such as the “Berlin Philharmonie”, the Vienna “Musikverein”, at the Mozarteum Salzburg, the “Concertgebouw Amsterdam” and in the Victoria Hall in Geneva. Since 2008, Adrian Ionut Buzac has been pursuing his career very successfully as a professor of oboe and chamber music at the “Landeskonservatorium Vorarlberg”. In addition, he continues to perform as a highly regarded soloist and orchestral musician at international level. He is currently solo oboist of the Liechtenstein Symphony Orchestra and a member of the International Academy of Music in Liechtenstein`s “Ensembles Esperanza”.
